What is Trademark Class 14?

Trademark Class 14 covers jewelry, watches, and goods made from precious metals or stones. This class is essential for businesses involved in crafting, selling, or distributing luxury and decorative items.

Examples include gold jewelry manufacturers, watchmakers, and suppliers of precious stones. Class 14 ensures proper trademark classification for high-value decorative products.

What are key features of Class 14?

Key features include luxury items, timepieces, and goods crafted from precious materials for aesthetic or functional purposes.

Class 14 for trademarks: a brief description

Class 14 includes a variety of goods made from precious metals or stones, including watches, jewelry, and related items. Businesses in this class cater to luxury, fashion, and gift markets.

Products in this class are known for their craftsmanship and high value.

Practical examples of Class 14

Examples include manufacturers of diamond rings, watch brands, and suppliers of silverware.

What Does Class 14 Include?

Class 14 includes mainly jewelry, time-keeping, and related devices. It embraces both precious and imitation jewelry, ornamental charms, and other basic elements in the ornamentation of time-keeping devices and jewelry.

Key Products in Class 14

The class encompasses everything from fine jewelry to imitation jewelry, such as paste jewelry. It also covers fashion accessories like cuff links, tie pins, and tie clips that add a touch of refinement to formal wear.

Key rings, key chains, and charms made therefor, fall within this class, as do the charms used in jewellery to ornament bracelets, necklaces and the like. This class also includes jewelry boxes, used to store and display collections of jewelry safely.

Furthermore, Class 14 includes necessary elements in jewelry, clocks, and watches. It covers clasps and beads for use in jewelry, and parts of clocks and watches include movements, clock hands, watch springs, and watch crystals. By covering a wide range of products related to jewelry and timepieces, Class 14 provides the right classification for luxury and fashion accessories.

Trademark Class 14 does not include

The Class 14 mainly consists of jewelry, timepieces, and accessories; however, some products related to this class are excluded by law and are placed under different trademark classes. These exclusions generally relate to smartwatches, non-jewelry charms, artistic objects of various bases, and functional items made from precious metals.

For instance, smartwatches fall outside Class 14 since their innate electronic properties and features technically bump it up to Class 9. On the other hand, charms that are not for use with jewelry, key rings or key chains are classified under Class 26, as they are considered general embellishments rather than fashion accessories per se.

Other Exclusions

Artistic works in materials other than precious metal also are not considered Class 14. They are classified according to their material—artworks of metal are Class 6, of stone, concrete, or marble are Class 19, and of wood, wax, plaster, or plastic are Class 20. Also not Class 14 are ornamental pieces made from porcelain, ceramic, earthenware, terra-cotta, or glass, which are Class 21.

Moreover, some goods of precious metals or plated therewith are not included in Class 14 if they are classified according to their function rather than according to their material. By exclusion, for example, metal foils and powders for painting and decoration go to Class 2, dental amalgams of gold to Class 5 and cutlery of precious metals to Class 8. Similarly excluded are electric contacts in Class 9, gold pen nibs in Class 16, teapots in Class 21, gold and silver embroidery in Class 26, cigar boxes in Class 34. These exclusions will help businesses make sure their products are classified under the right trademark class for proper categorization and legal protection.
