What Does Class 11 Include?

Class 11 primarily consists of apparatuses and installations for heating, cooling, lighting, sanitary, and food processing. It includes all kinds of electrical and non-electrical appliances used domestically and commercially.

This class includes air-conditioning apparatus and installations for regulating temperature or climate, including ovens, not for use in laboratories, of all kinds, such as dental ovens, microwave ovens, and baker's ovens. It also covers heating apparatus like stoves, solar thermal collectors, chimney flues, chimney blowers, hearths, and domestic fireplaces. Some devices would help in the generation and distribution of heat without waste.

Class 11 also includes lighting and sterilization apparatus. Lighting apparatus and installations include luminous tubes, searchlights, luminous house numbers, vehicle reflectors, and vehicle lights. Lamps, including electric, gas, laboratory, oil, street, and safety lamps, are also classified under this class. Sterilizers and incinerators used for sanitation and waste management also fall under this class.

Likewise, air condensers and electric generators, including current generators, are classified in Class 7, since their purpose is more closely related to mechanics and power generation than to climate control or household use.

Other Exclusions

Other lamps or lighting apparatus depending on their functional types are put under different groups. Soldering lamps would fall under class 7 due to their being used in industrials and repairing purposes. Photographic lamps, darkroom lamps and every other special lamp for use in connection with photography or other optical work therefore fall in Class 9, whereas lamps for medical purposes fall in Class 10. Laboratory ovens, being for scientific rather than general baking or cooking, are excluded from Class 11 and are also classified in Class 9.

Other exclusions include: photovoltaic cells of Class 9, as they generate energy from the sun rather than heating or lighting directly; and Class 9 signaling lights, the function of which is related more to safety and warning. Pads, cushions, and blankets, electrically heated, for medical use are in Class 10. Household items, not electrical, such as portable baby baths, non-electric portable coolers, and heatless cooking utensils, for example, non-electric griddles, waffle irons, and pressure cookers, are in Class 21. Footmuffs, not electrically heated, are in Class 25, as they are accessories of clothing rather than means for the regulation of temperature.
